Yanaka is one of the few areas that survived the WWII bombings and post-war redevelopment. It retains its pre-war atmosphere with narrow lanes, traditional wooden houses, over 70 Buddhist temples, and a genuine local community. It feels like stepping back to 1950s Tokyo.
Is the Yanaka tour suitable for elderly travelers?
Yes. The route is mostly flat with gentle slopes. We walk at a relaxed pace through quiet residential streets. There are plenty of rest stops at temples, cafes, and parks along the way.
What is Yanaka Ginza shopping street?
Yanaka Ginza is a charming 170-meter shopping street with about 60 small shops — traditional snack sellers, craft shops, and local eateries. It's a living local shopping street, not a tourist attraction, which is exactly what makes it special.
Can we combine Yanaka with Ueno on the same tour?
Yes! Our Yanaka tour includes parts of Ueno. The two areas are adjacent, and combining them gives you the contrast between Tokyo's cultural museum district and its most nostalgic residential neighborhood.
What's the cancellation policy?
Cancel 7 or more days before the tour (Japan time) for a full refund. 3 to 6 days before, a 50% refund. Less than 72 hours, no refund. The full policy is on the cancellation page.
What happens if it rains?
Tours run rain or shine. The route shifts toward covered streets and indoor stops. Cancellation is only for severe weather warnings (typhoon or similar official alerts). In that case it's a full refund or a new date.
Can we bring children?
Yes. Families with children of all ages book these tours regularly. Routes are mostly flat and pram-friendly. Pace and stops adjust so younger travelers can keep up.
Is it a problem if someone in the group has tattoos?
Walking tours have no tattoo restriction. Some onsen and public baths in Japan do not allow visible tattoos. If the group wants a bath stop, mention it when you inquire so the itinerary can use a facility that accepts tattoos.
Can the tour work around dietary restrictions?
Yes, if you mention them when you inquire. Vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, and common allergies can be planned for.
Where do we meet?
The meeting point is confirmed when the booking is set: a hotel lobby, a nearby station, or another easy landmark in central Tokyo. Each tour page lists a usual starting station.
